Meet our

Dr. Shelagh Hislop

Dr. Shelagh Hislop has been working with us since 1992 after her Biochemistry degree at the U. of Calgary, then graduation with distinction, with her veterinary degree from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. Her love for animals, people, and science are what drew her to veterinary medicine as a career. Shelagh is seeing patients at the clinic 2-3 days/week, while raising her kids (and an everchanging array of pets at home). Her special interest areas are dentistry and soft tissue surgery. She enjoys running, reading, and gardening.

Dr. Jeff Dahl
Dr. Jeff Dahl started working with us in May 2000 immediately after his graduation from Western College of Veterinary Medicine. Jeff originates from the Victoria area and was glad to return to the Island from his veterinary training in Saskatoon where he worked 2 summers in the department of radiology. We're sure he was born with veterinary medicine in his genes because both of his parents were veterinarians too! Jeff works full time in the clinic while he and his wife, Denise, are raising two young boys (and 2 cats, Margaret and Maisy).
Dr. Lesage
Dr. Natacha Lesage

Dr. Natacha Lesage started her work with us in March 2006. She graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon in 2002. Prior to her work here, she had practiced veterinary medicine in Oregon and also in England, as she and her husband traveled in Europe. Dr. Lesage has a very gentle nature and thus has a calming influence on our four-legged patients and their owners. Natacha is in the clinic 3 days/week, while she and her husband, David, are raising two young boys, and their canine child, Rocky.

Dr. Bradbury
Dr. Christine Bradbury

Dr. Christine Bradbury joined the Bellevue team in February 2017. Originally from the Comox Valley, she completed an undergraduate degree in Zoology at UBC prior to earning her DVM from the Ontario Veterinary College. Just prior to Bellevue, Christine was working at an emergency hospital in Vancouver, but is excited to be back on the Island to spend more quality time with her husband and 3 boys. Christine's veterinary special interests include diagnostic medicine, soft tissue surgery and critical care. In her spare time, Christine loves the outdoors, camping, kayaking, and painting.

Dr. Cindy Smith
Dr. Cindy Smith

Dr Cindy Smith graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. After
working in Alberta for a few years, she moved to Chilliwack to join Cheam View Veterinary
Hospital where she worked and eventually owned the practice for 17 years. She moved to
Parksville in 2011 and worked at Pacific Rim Veterinary Hospital until joining Bellevue
Veterinary Hospital in November 2020. Currently she shares her home with her Chihuahua, Terra Belle, and a ginger tabby named Loki . She has a soft spot for senior pets and enjoys working with them and their owners to keep them happy and comfortable into their golden years.

Dr. Jessica Paravicini

Dr. Jessica Paravicini is presently on maternity leave.

She grew up in Qualicum Beach and attended Vancouver Island University where she completed a degree in Biology. She then moved to Saskatoon to attend the Western College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with great distinction. She returned to Vancouver Island to practice at a small animal hospital in Port Alberni before choosing to join the team at Bellevue Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Paravicini is a compassionate person who strives to provide high quality medicine to her patients. Her interests include preventative medicine and dentistry. When not at work she spends time with her husband, son, dog and horse. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, reading and horseback riding.

Meet our

Care Team

Jennifer is a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT). She graduated from the 2-year Animal Health Technology Program at Olds College (Alberta) in June 2002. She had previously worked and learned the ropes, at Bellevue, as a volunteer during high school. We’re thrilled that she wanted to come back and work with us after getting her formal education. She’s a great asset to our team and has become our head technician. Jen, along with her husband and 2 children, have a black lab, some cats & horses. Her interests include reading, drawing, horseback riding, spending time with family, hiking and camping.

Marti, a Registered Veterinary Technologist, hails from Northern Alberta, and graduated from Fairview College’s AHT program in 2001. After working in a veterinary clinic for 6 years, she took a break to work in radio. She moved to the island in the fall of 2013, and we were very lucky she joined our team in July 2015. In her down time, she enjoys a variety of activities, ranging from running, hunting, to crocheting.

Gwyneth, a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT), graduated from the Animal Health Technology course at Thompson Rivers University in 1995. She spent most of the following 20 years working with marine mammals and exotics as a technologist and trainer. Many of those years were at the Vancouver Aquarium, but also included 3 years at a facility (Fjord & Baelt Centre) in a small town in Denmark. Gwyneth met her husband, a Research Biologist, while working at the Aquarium. They married in 2007 and were thrilled to welcome sons over the following years. Gwyneth joined the Bellevue team in July 2015 and we are thrilled she is working with us, and small animals again!

Karli has worked at Bellevue since 1997. She is in charge of ordering & our online store, plus she also works as a veterinary assistant and sometimes helps in reception and house calls. She completed the Animal Sciences Veterinary Reception course through correspondence and has learned a great deal on the job. She covers a lot of bases and has accumulated many valuable skills. Her obvious love of animals is evidenced by her own household — an ever-changing number of various species.

Raven started working at Bellevue in Spring 2019. She completed the Animal Care Aide program through North Island College in 2017 and, along with her work experience, plans to continue her education in veterinary care. Her Bellevue roles include assisting technicians & vets in the back, as well as helping receptionists in the front of the clinic. Raven enjoys horseback riding and has done so most of her life.
Meet our

Receptionists & Administration

As of July 2019, Honey is our office manager. Her extensive experience includes 18 years working in mixed & equine practices. She has worked in management, reception, and assisting with patient care, and is a great help in all of those roles. She joined the Bellevue team in 2017, after moving here with her husband, sons, Great Danes and Persian cats. Living in Qualicum Beach has allowed her to enjoy kayaking, hiking & biking.
Maureen has been a receptionist at Bellevue for over twenty-five years and has seen a lot of changes. She enjoys working with animals and understands how much having a pet can make a difference in the owner’s life. Maureen shares her home with her cat Starsky and new puppy Pippa. One of Maureen’s pleasures is spending time with her grandchildren, and as time allows, she loves to sew and knit for charity. Maureen is a very thoughtful and caring person who goes out of her way to make others feel good. She is a wonderful asset to our veterinary hospital because of her natural desire to help everyone and her great sense of compassion.
Genevieve arrived on our reception team in 2004 with a background in customer service and a love of all creatures. She lives on a beautiful farm in Qualicum Beach with her family and a host of fantastic farm animals including sheep, chickens and horses. Gen loves spending time outdoors; riding horses, canoeing, or hiking with her crazy dog, Tucker. She is also a six-time novelist who writes horse-themed YA novels that appeal to readers of all ages.
Jennifer has worked with us in reception since Spring 2006. Since then she has been a dependable and friendly part of our reception desk. Part of Jen’s story took a sharp turn a couple of years after she started working with us. She has always been a keen equestrian and very involved with horses throughout her life, but unfortunately, was tragically injured after being thrown from a horse in May 2008. She sustained significant spinal cord damage and was away from work for a year. It has been a challenge for her to resume her life (and come back to work) in a wheelchair, but she has been an amazing fighter and continues to be a valuable member of our team.
Patty joined the Bellevue team in the fall of 2007. You can see her smiling face in reception every other weekend and 2 days through the week. Patty brings her calm, quiet influence and warm maternal tendency to all those she assists and works with. Patty is also very busy at home with her husband, two young children, three budgies, two poodles, and two ferrets.
Pat started at our reception desk in the fall of 2009, after moving from Ontario, to be closer to her family. In Ontario, Pat worked as a secretary at Fessenden, a primary school in Ancaster. She shares her home with her dog and 4 cats. She is friendly, efficient and compassionate…..she also has the best laugh going. When not at work, Pat spends a lot of time with her 2 beautiful grandchildren.

Delilah joined the Bellevue reception team in Fall 2019, and has been loving it since! She was born and raised in beautiful Errington BC, and has had a love for animals from a young age. She currently shares
her home with two cats and one dog, and is pursuing a Bachelors degree in Criminology with future career goals in law enforcement. When not at work, Delilah can be found riding horses in reining, ranch riding,
and cattle sorting disciplines as well as reading, studying, and hiking local island mountains and trails with her sheltie Maisie.

Alexandra joined our reception team in November 2019. She has always been very fond of animals and has future plans to further her skills and abilities in a career with animals. She currently shares her home with two large mixed breed Labradors and two domestic short-haired cats. Alexandra spends most of her free time outdoors adventuring Vancouver Island by either hiking or 4×4. She enjoys the beautiful place we live and plans to see as much as she can.

Megan started working at Bellevue in 2011 after completing the Animal Care Aid course at Vancouver Island University. She took a 2 year pause, but we’re happy to have her back, working as a Veterinary Assistant and Receptionist. In her spare time she enjoys hiking with her family and they share their home with an active Australian Cattle dog, Cedar, a one-eyed orange tabby, Noel, plus various chickens and ducks.

Holly is our bookkeeper. (She was previously our office administrator for 8 years.) She enjoys hiking and cycling and shares her home with her energetic Westie named Piper.

Our Top Priorities

wE STRIVE FOR our patients TO BE as comfortable as possible, while their owners trust our expertise, and experience our compassion. the standard of care WE PROVIDE is the same THAT we would GIVE to our own CHERISHED PETS.
